There is something hypnotic and magical about riding through the long plains of Alentejo, finding landscapes out of this world, discovering quiet and secluded villages filled with tradition and good food.
Alentejo is filled with great restaurants and great people, always kind and welcoming. There is also a lot of history here and the usually mild to hot nights are a clear invitation to relax and have a nice glass of wine, another richness of the region.
This is a paradise for bike riding, either road or gravel mode and we can spend hours and hours without even seeing a car. It’s more likely to find a cow on the way than a car!

day 1
Arrival at Lisbon Airport and reception at our Grupeto Bike Shop Café. Preparation for the 1:30h trip to Évora. After the check in and lunch, we will make a quick tour in downtown Évora.

First gravel exploration. Starting in Évora to Torre Coelheiros and back. Some great Gravel roads and plenty of Tapirs (Menires) to see.

We are going to ride a dirt cycle path between Évora and Arraiolos and visit its castle. After this São Miguel de Machede and a quick stop on the Casa Relvas for a wine taste before heading back to Évora…by car!

This day we will be heading West to some gravel roads up to Santiago do Escoural and its monastery. More Gravel roads back to Évora!

We will start in Reguengos de Monsaraz. First pass São Pedro do Corval, the Alentejo Pottery Capital, after this the Castle of Monsaraz and its fortified Town. Some more Road and Gravel roads before we reach the Winery of Esporão

Alqueva Grand Tour. We are going pass in Mourão and see its castle. After that we will pass through the “new” Aldeia da Luz, a small village that has been relocated due to the Alqueva Dam. After passing by some old properties, we will reach the Alqueva Dam and visit the nearby Medronho Museum. Final stretch to Amieira and its beautiful beach. It’s a long stretch this one!

The time has come for us to return and go back to Lisbon for the trip home.

Gravel bike riding through mostly plain terrain and rolling hills. Each stage will average 60 km, exception made on the last one: The Alqueva Big Tour Day, a stretch of nearly 100km. It’s challenging on the overall but doable.
bike and gear
Although this tour takes place in the spring, it's best to come prepared with cycling and casual light winter clothing, because the nights are chilly. Road bikes for this tour are included, but as an extra option you can use an electric bike.
