Frequently asked questions

About our tours

  • Just like you, your fellow travelers will have an adventurous spirit and a desire to explore new places by bike and enjoy new experiences. Groups bond very quickly, and you will leave your trip having made several new friends. Often, people who meet on tour come back together for another great adventure. But if you prefer and have a group of friends, we can design a tour to suit you. See our "Private Tours" solutions

  • Of course you can share these amazing destinations with people who don't cycle. There are always options for other activities. Depending on the location of the trip, they vary: hiking, a spa visit, wine tasting or simply a walk can be the alternatives. Just ask us when you call; we will be happy to inform you about the details.

  • To participate in a tour, travelers must be 17 years of age or older. Please note that minors must be accompanied by an adult. Travelers under the age of 17 are welcome to participate in a bespoke family organized tour. We are happy to work with you and your family to select the date and destination that will meet your specific needs. In addition, children wishing to ride an e-bike must be 14 years of age or older.

  • One of the options we have available is "Private Tours" where we can tailor it to your needs. We can adjust the date, the number of participants, the type of cycling experience, difficulty, region, ...

For that you only need to tell us your preferences by filling out the form "I go Private", one of our tour designers will contact you to analyze the available options and design the best possible tour for you and your group...

Difficulty and Activity level

  • We consider 5 levels of difficulty that vary according to the tour chosen. Thus we have:

    • Easy - Rounds between 30 and 40 km per day with a walking pace

    • Easy to Moderate - Rounds of about 50 km per day in a slightly more challenging terrain and rhythm

    • Moderate - rides of about 50km per day but at a higher pace

    • Moderate to Intense - rides of about 60-70km per day at a more sporting pace

    • Intense - Rides of over 70km per day at a sporty pace

  • Our cycling options depend on the level of difficulty of the tour. For tours rated as Easy, travelers can expect to cycle between 30-40 kilometers. For easy/moderate holidays, expect to cycle around 50 kilometers per day. And for moderate tours, expect to spend 50 kilometers on your bike. On a more sporty holiday you can cycle 70 kilometers or more per day.

Most days include a range of mileage options, and our support car is always available.

  • We cycle on mostly paved roads, but you may occasionally encounter gravel or cobblestone terrain. For more information, please refer to the specific information for the tour you will be cycling.

  • Our support van will accompany participants by providing light refreshments, refills of water bottles, and rides for those who wish them. Note: Some walks may have limited access to van support. If a particular part of one of your day trips is to be done without support, the tour designers have informed you of this in advance and will advise you of your options.

  • We take care of all the logistics of handling your bike between rides, so you don't have to do any heavy lifting or air lifting during your trip. During your rides, you may have to ride a short distance in some places, and making sharp turns from a full stop may require you to lift your bike a few millimeters out of the way or off the road.

Bikes and Gear

  • The bikes are provided by Grupeto Travel according to the type of tour. You can see more details about our bicycles <here>.

Other types of bikes are available for hire, namely electric bikes, for a hire fee, we just need to know in advance.

We choose the initial frame size by asking for your height and an inside leg measurement, then make the final fitting adjustments when we meet you for the start of the tour.

  • For the tour, travelers are invited to choose a hybrid, road, or mountain bike (in certain destinations). Electric bikes are available at most destinations for an additional fee. In order to accommodate requests for bike selection, travelers must submit their preference to Grupeto Travel no later than 30 days prior to departure. Requests submitted within 30 days prior to departure will be subject to availability and may not be guaranteed. Changes to bike requests made within 21 days prior to departure will be subject to a €50 late change fee.

  • You can bring your own personal bicycle on any tour (there is no discount on the tour price for doing so), but it will have to remain your responsibility to transport it pre-trip.

  • The tour designers will make all the necessary adjustments to your bike to make sure it gets the most comfortable fit for you. As we will only have one bike for each rider at the departure point, it is very important to provide us with your current height (measured without shoes) when you make your booking. If you have any questions or concerns about the fit of your bike, please contact our team.

  • Absolutely! Assistance will be provided to install your pedals and saddle on your bike when you arrive at your destination. If you bring your own saddle, you do not need to bring the seat post with you. If you bring your own pedals and have slip-on shoes that are not comfortable for walking, don't forget to bring a pair of sandals or moccasins to put on when we take a break to explore on foot! Note: saddles with carbon fiber rails will not work with our saddle clamps.

  • Our hybrids and e-bikes come equipped with a comfort saddle, which is a little on the wide side and has plenty of padding. Our road bikes feature a narrower, low-friction seat that is preferred by many frequent cyclists. If you have a favorite saddle at home, feel free to bring it along.

Food and Accommodation

  • We choose the accommodation for our tours from 3 and 4 star hotels, boutique hotels and small hotels that provide a unique experience. If you would like more differentiated accommodation we can provide this option for a supplementary fee.

  • We will do our best to accommodate you on our tours.

If you book more than 91 days before departure and request to share a room with another single traveler, we will do our best to match you with a roommate of the same gender. For all tours, you will be charged the single room supplement.

If we find a roommate, the single room supplement for the shared portion of the trip will be refunded to you.

  • All meals are included for the duration of the tour

  • We will do everything we can to tailor your trip to your needs and in this regard we will work with our partners to accommodate dietary restrictions; however, we may not be able to accommodate needs beyond a vegetarian diet. Please be prepared to supplement our included meals if required.

At the time of your booking we ask that you advise us of any specific requests. Not all meals are included; guests will need to manage their diet for meals not included..

Before the trip

  • Recommendations on what to bring vary depending on the tour you are going on. Please see the "what to bring" tab in each tour for detailed information.

  • Portugal is a member of the Schengen Convention, which means that if you are traveling to an EU member country or countries, such as Portugal, for a total of less than 90 days, you do not need a visa. Citizens of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, UK and other EU and Schengen member countries are included in this agreement.

Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveler. Entry requirements may change at any time, so it is important that you check the latest information. Please visit the relevant consular website for detailed, up-to-date visa information specific to your home country.

  • Portugal is one of the warmest countries in Europe. The average annual temperature is about 15°C (55°F) in the north and 18°C (64°F) in the south. The spring and summer months are usually warm and sunny, with July and August averages between 25°C and 30°C in Porto, around 30°C in Lisbon and 30-35°C in the south. These coastal areas tend to be cooler thanks to the ocean breeze.

  • Pack for Portugal as you would for any other European coastal destination. If traveling in summer, loose clothing that protects from the sun is best for the day, but don't forget to cover your shoulders when visiting churches or other religious sites. Winters can get quite cool, as can spring and autumn evenings, so pack a warm jumper and raincoat too.

  • All transport and transfers for the duration of the tour are included, as well as pick-up and drop-off at the participants' place of arrival (airport)

  • No, travel to and from Portugal outside of the tour package is the responsibility of the participants.

  • Grupeto Travel offers personal accident and liability insurance to each of the participants, but it is recommended that they also take out general travel insurance.

  • We include Liability and Personal Accident Insurance for the duration of the event.

Additionally we advise opting for Travel Protection Plans that safeguard your travel investment, your belongings and most importantly you. We always advise travelers to enroll in a Travel Protection Plan in case they have to cancel or leave their trip.

Prices, Reservations and Cancellations

  • Grupeto Travel recommends booking as far in advance as possible to secure your preferred tour and date. Booking within 90 days before departure will limit availability and additional costs may apply.

  • In the event that you have to cancel or change your trip, the Cancellation Policy, set out in our General Terms of Service, will apply, in which you may be entitled to a refund of a portion of the amount paid or the allocation of Travel Credits, depending on the date of cancellation versus the date of travel and takes into account the costs we incur before travelers depart.

To avoid cancellation and trip amendment costs, please make an educated choice.

  • Requests to change the trip or date of an existing booking will be accommodated based on availability. If this request is made within 90 days prior to departure, a minimum late change fee of €250 per person will apply. The traveler is responsible for any additional cancellation fees incurred at hotels etc. In addition, the traveler must pay any increase in the tour price. Only one date change is permitted per booking.

  • The price of the tours includes hotel, food, bicycle, entertainment, personal accident and liability insurance, welcome pack, jersey, all meals, mechanical assistance, transfers, support vehicle.
